Thank you for your requests made under the Official Information Act 1982 (OIA), received on
28 February 2026 and 4 March 2026. You requested the following:
I would like to request the number of staff in public relations or communications roles at
the Department of Inland Revenue for 2026, 2025, 2024, 2023, 2022, and 2021.
I would also like to request the number of contractors in public relations or communications
roles at the Department of Inland Revenue for 2026, 2025, 2024, 2023, 2022, and 2021.
Inland Revenue records workforce data by financial year periods. Accordingly, the data provided
in this response is presented in financial year periods rather than in calendar years.

Information Released
For consistency, we have used the same definition of communications staff to determine what
Inland Revenue roles were in-scope for inclusion in the 2024/25 to 2025/26 financial years. The
definition is based on that for communications staff adopted by the public sector from the
2021/22 year, per
Guidance: Communications function definition - Te Kawa Mataaho Public
Service Commission.
