Your Official Information Act 1982 request, reference OIA 2526-0963
I am responding to your email of 25 February 2026, to the Department of Internal Affairs
(the Department), requesting the fol owing under the Official Information Act 1982 (the Act):
3. Any and all correspondence with Moonshot CVE and whoever locally runs
"YourTurn ToTalk" and government departs, agencies, or bodies, especially
ministerial correspondence.
9. How much this "CVE" program costs and who funds it (full list, local and
international).
Transfer of your request
On 11 March 2026, Parts Three and Nine of your request were partial y transferred to the
Department of Internal Affairs (the Department), as the information requested is more
closely connected with the Department’s functions.
Response to your request
Part Three
By way of context, the Department’s records indicate that there are currently more than
1,000 emails held by the Digital Safety team that would fal within scope of this part of your
request. This estimate does not include emails held by former staff members who worked
more closely with Moonshot.
Accordingly, this part of your request is refused under section 18(f) Act, on the grounds that
the information requested cannot be made available without substantial collation or
research.
However, seven documents between the Department’s Community Operations team and
Moonshot have been identified and are partially released. These documents are attached as
Appendix A. Some information has been withheld under the fol owing provision of the Act:
• 9(2)(a) – to protect the privacy of natural persons.
Part Nine
The Moonshot Online Violence Prevention Programme received $739,353 in funding through
the Preventing and Countering Violent Extremism Fund, led by the Department of the Prime
Minister and Cabinet and administered by the Department. Further information about this

Fol owing the conclusion of the Preventing and Countering Violent Extremism Fund in
December 2025, the Moonshot Programme was extended for the period 1 January 2026 to
30 April 2026, with additional funding of NZD $210,000.
Public interest considerations
As is required by section 9(1) of the Act, consideration has been given as to whether the
withholding of information is outweighed by other public interest considerations which
would make it desirable to make this information available. In this instance, it is not
considered to be the case.
