Executive Leadership Team (ELT) Weekly report update: Week of 1 September 2025:
Approval has been granted for a 15-day weekday only closure of SH6 between Belgrove and Kohatu to
allow One Forty One (OFO) forestry limited to urgently remove approximately 19,000 tonnes of windthrow
and edge-risk trees adjacent to 3.66 km of highway. The closure is justified solely on safety grounds, as
the trees pose an imminent risk to road users due to storm damage, and a prolonged stop/go approach
would not mitigate that risk.
The detour adds 10 minutes via a sealed local road and wil  operate from 7:30am to 5pm on weekdays,
with the road open at all other times including weekends. A written agreement with OFO is being finalized
by legal, and emergency services access has been factored into the plan. The start date is targeted for
Monday 22 September to Friday 10 October. Notably, many fel ed trees are now unusable, reinforcing the
non-commercial nature of the operation. Comms planning is well underway, with stakeholder engagement
and then public messaging, expected to begin this week.
