Official Information Act (OIA) request: Individuals aged 18–30 identified as disabled
On 12 February 2026, the Ministry of Disabled People – Whaikaha, partially transferred your
request, under the Official Information Act 1982 (the Act) to Stats NZ. Your request is for:

The total number of individuals aged 18–30 identified as disabled in New Zealand,
according to the most recent Household Disability Survey or Whaikaha
administrative data.
Findings from the Household Disability Survey 2023 show that there are 124,000 disabled
people (rounded to the nearest thousand) aged 18 to 30 years.
