Thank you for your email of 9 February 2026 to the Hon Erica Stanford. Your request has been 
partially transferred to the Department of Internal Affairs (the Department) under section 14(b)(ii) 
as the information requested is held by the Department. You have requested the following 
information under the Official Information Act 1982 (the Act):  
The latest briefing shown to the minister on the pros/cons of a social media ban for under 
16's if that specific document does not exist provide the latest briefing given to the minister 
about the proposed social media ban 

Response to your request 
I am withholding all information you have requested in full under section 9(2)(f)(iv) of the Act, as 
the information requested cannot be made publicly available at this time. This is in order to 
maintain the constitutional conventions for the time being which protect the confidentiality of 
advice tendered by Ministers of the Crown and officials. 
Public interest considerations   
As is required by section 9(1) of the Act, consideration has been made as to whether the grounds 
for withholding information from the documents provided with this response are outweighed by 
other considerations which would render it desirable, in the public interest, to make that 
information available. In this instance, it is not considered to be the case.
