Tēnā koe Mr Gray

Thank you for your email of 4 February 2026 to Te Kaunihera o Pōneke | Wellington City Council (the
Council) requesting the following information:

I would like to know the full cost associated with the new speed sign that has been recently
placed on Rangatira Road in Tawa.

Please include all costs in relation to the planning, approval, design - placement and

installation and also the cost for staffing hours that was involved in the new sign from
beginning to end.

Your request has been considered under the Local Government Of icial Information and Meetings Act
1987 (LGOIMA). Please find my response below.

The works on Rangatira Road were undertaken in response to the Land Transport Rule: Setting of
Speed Limits 2024. Under this Rule, roads within 150 metres on either side of school entrances are
required to operate at reduced speed limits (30km/h in this case) during school travel periods.

The sign on Rangatira Road was delivered as part of a wider, city-wide programme to install Variable
Speed Limit signage outside schools across Wellington. As this is a programme of work, staff time
and associated delivery costs are tracked at a project level rather than on an individual site basis.

Accordingly, we are providing the average cost to install the type of sign placed on Rangatira Road.
The average cost to install a 50km/h static sign and pole is $1,470 per sign. This figure reflects actual
and forecast costs across the programme, including all associated costs such as:
•  Planning and design
•  Traffic Resolution and approvals
•  Project management and delivery management
•  Supply and installation (labour and materials)
•  Traffic management
•  Preliminary and general costs

I trust this information is helpful. If you have any concerns about this response please contact
[Wellington City Council request email]. Alternatively, you are advised of your right to raise any concerns
with the Of ice of the Ombudsman at www.ombudsman.parliament.nz or freephone 0800 802 602.

Nāku noa, nā
