28 January 2026
Will Evans
Dear Will Evans,
Thank you for your email dated 25 January 2026 in which you made the following Official
Information Act 1982 (OIA) request:
“I’d like to request a list of OIA requests that Winston Peter’s office has received
between January 1 2024 and the present. Please include the following columns
in the list:
1. the reference number assigned to the request (if there is any, if not feel free to
exclude this column)
2. what the request was requesting
3. the date on which the request was received
4. the date on which a decision was made on the request
5. the decision that was made on the request (i.e. whether the request was
refused, whether the information was released, or whether only some
information was released and there were some withholding or redactions.
Please include the exact sections of the OIA exemptions were made under if
any.”
I am writing to advise that responding to your request as currently framed would capture
a significant volume of information. As such, it is likely that your request will be refused
under section 18(f) of the OIA, as it would require substantial collation and research.
Accordingly, I am seeking your agreement to refine your request to be for:
“A list of OIA requests that Winston Peters’ Office has received between January
1 2024 and January 28 2026, including the following:
1. the reference number assigned to the request
2. what was being requested
3. the date on which the request was received
4. the date on which the information was provided to the requester”
Parts 4 and 5 have been removed from the original request as the information as framed
in part 4 does not exist as decisions on the request aren’t finalised until the requester
receives the information and part 5 as we do not track the decisions made on the
request such as withholding grounds or what was released.

Please confirm if you are happy to proceed with the refined request above, by
Tuesday 3
February. If we do not hear from you, we will proceed with your original request.
You have the right to seek an investigation and review by the Office of the Ombudsman.
Information about how to make a complaint is available at
www.ombudsman.parliament.govt.nz or freephone 0800 802 602.
Yours sincerely,
Jackson Burgess
