[FYI request #33505 email]>
Dear B White
We are writing concerning your Official Information Act 1982 (OIA) request of
14 January 2026. The request is for:
“You have been quoted in the media saying "We remind the Governor to stay in
her New Zealand lane and stick to domestic monetary policy. That would have
been the advice of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade if the Governor had
sought its advice, which she did not."
Please supply any official information you hold in relation to this comment
substantiating the claims made. This may be, but is not limited to, information
supplied by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade.”
This letter is to advise that we wil need to extend the time limit for responding to you by
15 working days, to 6 March 2026. This is because consultations necessary to make a
decision on your request are such that a proper response cannot reasonably be made
within the original time frame (section 15A(1)(b) of the OIA refers).
However, if this process is completed before 6 March 2026, the response wil be sent to
you as soon as possible.
You have the right to seek an investigation and review by the Ombudsman of this decision
by contacting www.ombudsman.parliament.nz
Yours sincerely
Jackson Burgess
Private Secretary (Advisory/Media)
