Official Information Act request: Disputes Tribunal Referee appointments
Thank you for your email of 13 January 2026 requesting, under the Official Information Act
1982 (the Act), information relating to expressions of interest sought for appointment as a
Disputes Tribunal Referee. Specifically, you requested:
May I ask how you called for public nomination and on what platform you have call
for public nominations e.g. govt.jobs website. A copy of your ad as well. Also, how
many application you have received for each of the role (New Plymouth and
Queenstown) from the public and how many you have received from other
nominating agencies such as TPK or Ministry of women etc for your role. How many
you have shortlisted and how many you have interviewed. Also, how many vancancy
you have available in this round.
For ease of reference, I have separated out your request and responded to each part in turn.
Call for nominations
The position was advertised on the Ministry of Justice (the Ministry) website, in the Law
Association and New Zealand Law Society publications and was also sent to the Māori Law
Society and the Pasifika Law Society.
A copy of the advertisement for the New Plymouth vacancy is
attached to this response.
The Queenstown advertisement is identical, save for the location reference.
Applications and expressions of interest received
Three expressions of interest have been received for each of the two available roles, all of
which were submit ed by members of the public. No expressions of interest were sought or
have been received from nominating agencies.
Shortlisting, interviews and vacancies
Shortlisting and interviewing is yet to take place and there are two vacancies.
