Ref: PMO OIA 662-2025-26
Dear Aaron,
Official Information Act request: Number of text messages and emails sent, and
number of phone calls made between 5 and 12 January 2026
Thank you for your Official Information Act 1982 (the Act) request, received on 13 January
2026. You requested:
“Can you please provide the number of text messages and emails you have sent, as
well as the number of phone calls you have made between then period of 5-12 January
2025? To be clear, I am not asking about any of the content nor any information about
who you contacted, just numbers.”
I have interpreted the timeframe of your request to be from 5 to 12 January 2026.
Rt Hon Christopher Luxon sent 15 text messages and five emails, and made 33 phone calls
in his capacity as Prime Minister from 5 to 12 January 2026.
For clarity, the Prime Minister was engaged in other work from 5 to 12 January 2026 and
sent other emails and text messages in that period in his capacities as the Member of
Parliament for Botany and leader of the National Party. Those emails and text messages are
not covered in this response because they are not official information, as defined in section 2
of the Act.
You have the right to ask the Ombudsman to investigate and review my decision under
section 28(3) of the Act.
Yours sincerely,
Cameron Burrows
Chief of Staff
