I acknowledge your email to the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment received on 22 
December 2025 and note that on 6 January 2026, your request for the following information was 
transferred to the New Zealand Customs Service (Customs) under the Of icial Information Act 1982 
(the Act):  
 
“In early 2025 Stuff reported that 'according to the US Customs and Border Protection 
website, work is underway on New Zealand’s participation in the Global Entry program'.

Could you please provide updates on the progress of working with relevant US Authority on 
New Zealand's participation, and when New Zealand passport holders can expect to enjoy 
the Global Entry program when entering the US?” 
 
The Global Entry program facilitates expedited clearance for pre-approved, low-risk travellers 
entering the United States. Implementing this program is a complex and highly detailed process, and 
therefore Customs is unable to advise a timeframe for when New Zealanders may be able to access 
the program at this stage. 
 
However,  I can advise that Customs has  been  and  will continue to  engage  with  domestic and 
international partners,  to understand the  system requirements associated with implementing the 
Global Entry Program for New Zealand citizens, before the program can commence.
