OIA: 46469 – List of charter schools and copies of applications
Thank you for your email of 6 January 2026 to the Charter School Agency (the Agency) requesting
the following information:
I am requesting a list of the 17 successful charter school applications for the charter schools
that have been accepted and that have opened or will be opened throughout 2026.

Reference to these have been made on the Charter Schools Agency website
https://www.charterschools.govt.nz/charter-
schools/#:~:text=The%20government%20has%20announced%20five%20new%20charter%2

If the full set of applications is unable to be released, a subset of these will also be
acceptable.

Your request has been considered under the Official Information Act 1982 (the Act).
The Agency needs to extend the timeframe for responding to your request, pursuant to the
following sections of the Act:
•  15A(1)(a), as the request is for a large quantity of information or necessitates a search
through a large quantity of information, and meeting the original time limit would
unreasonably interfere with the operations of the Agency.
•  15A(1)(b) of the Act, as consultations necessary to make a decision on the request are
such that a proper response cannot reasonably be made within the original time limit.
You can now expect to receive a response to your request on or before 24 March 2026, which is
an extension of 30 working days.
