Dear Mr Stoneley
I refer to your email of 4 November 2015, in which you requested information about students sitting
assessments at the University of Auckland in te reo Māori. The University’s response fol ows.
1. Please provide a breakdown of the number of students who have
a. Requested to sit any assessment in Te Reo Maori where the language of instruction is English
b. Sat their assessment in Te Reo Maori
c. Complaints made to either Col ege or University level for the result of their marked Te Reo
Maori assessment
i. Please provide a table of reasons for those complaints and what their result was by
Col ege, and going back as far as records allow.
2. If you have a School of Law, please provide a table of:
a. How many assessments were assessed in Te Reo Maori where the language of instruction is
english; and
b. who marked (or has been asked to mark) those assessments taken in Te Reo Maori, as far as
records allow.
3. Further to point (2), please provide any information on the type of assessment, it’s percentage and
for what course. Any other information on these assessments would be appreciated.
We have no records of any requests by University of Auckland students to sit assessments in te reo Māori
where the language of instruction is English.
