We refer to your request of 10 December 2025 to Fire and Emergency New Zealand requesting
wage and salary information for the 2024/25 financial year under the Official Information Act 1982
(OIA). We copy and respond to each aspect of your request below.
1. What is the total annual wage/salary for the last financial year, listed by department in as
much detail as possible (for example: National Commanders, various HQ or non responding
roles, fire fighters, investigations, regional exec, etc) ?
Please see the below table, which details the total earnings for permanent and fixed-term staff in
the 2024/25 financial year broken down by region workstream. Please note the following about
this and the subsequent tables:
• Earnings exclude gratuity, severance, ex-gratia, and cessation payments.
• Firefighters are captured under each of the five Fire and Emergency regions: Te Hiku, Ngā
Tai ki te Puku, Te Ūpoko, Te Ihu, and Te Kei. You can find a map of Fire and Emergency
region
s here.
• The earnings of an individual employee during a year does not necessarily represent a full
year of payments to that individual. People move into and out of roles and workstreams
during a financial year, or there may be changes to our organisational structure that mean
they do not receive a ful year of payments.

Please see the below table, which provides a count of all permanent and fixed-term staff whose

We have withheld the precise number of employees within a workstream where the number that
earned over $75,000 is less than 5 under section 9(2)(a) of the OIA, to protect the privacy of
natural persons. Where this has occurred, we have replaced the number with “<5”. In making this
decision, we have considered the public interest considerations in section 9(1) of the OIA.
