that the Ministry hasn’t changed our position that we do not release attendance data at a school 
level.

Thank you for your email of 20 November 2025 to the Ministry of Education (the Ministry) requesting 
school level attendance data as below.  
Your request has been considered under the O icial Information Act 1982 (the Act).  
Schools provide attendance data to the Ministry on the basis that it is not released publicly at an 
Information 
identifying school level. I consider it is in the greater public interest that the Ministry maintains this 
level of trust with schools to ensure the continued supply of similar information. 
As a result, I am refusing your request under section 18(a) of the Act, as by virtue of section 9(2)(ba)(ii) 
of the Act, there is good reason for withholding the information to protect information which is

subject to an obligation of confidence, where the making available of the information would be likely 
otherwise to damage the public interest.

As required under section 9(1) of the Act, I have considered the public interest in releasing the 
information withheld. I do not consider that the public interest considerations favouring the release 
of this information are su icient to outweigh the need to withhold it at this time.
