Dear Josh

OIA 25.396 Grade Point Averages Engineering 2025
I refer to the Official Information Act (the Act) request dated 5 December 2025 regarding Grade Point Averages
Engineering 2025. You have specifical y requested:
•  Could you please provide the average overall GPA, the average Honours GPA, and the number of
students graduating in each class of Honours for all engineering disciplines within the 2025 Bachelor of
Engineering (Hons) graduating cohort?

•  Each engineering discipline's data should fol ow the table pattern below:

[Engineering Discipline i.e. Computer Engineering]

First Class: [Number of Students] [Average Overall GPA] [Average Honours GPA]
Second Class, First Division: [Number of Students] [Average Overall GPA] [Average Honours GPA]
Second Class, Second Division: [Number of Students] [Average Overall GPA] [Average Honours GPA]
Third Class: [Number of Students] [Average Overall GPA] [Average Honours GPA]

Please note that where there are five or less students in a particular category, the actual number is not
provided, rather a range of less than or equal to five (≤5). This is to protect the individual’s privacy under s
9(2)(a) of the Act. It is in the public interest that individuals are not identifiable when providing information
about course numbers. Please note that the smal er program tends to have rather large fluctuation in these
numbers.

The percentage of students in each discipline achieving the specific level of honours has also been provided.

The average honours and overal  Grade Point Averages for each Engineering Discipline are refused under s
18(f) of the Act, as they would require substantial col ation and research to provide. This is because they are
manual calculations.

You have the right to seek an investigation and review by the Ombudsman of this decision. Information about
how to make a complaint is available at www.ombudsman.parliament.nz or freephone 0800 802 602.

Yours sincerely

Information and Records Management
