You are accountable for:
• Driving progress against the Ministry’s strategic framework and priorities, including
identifying and managing risks to organisational priorities and regulatory outcomes
• Providing free and frank advice to political representatives on diverse and sensitive
issues and government priorities
• Leading initiatives that deliver significant impact on a broad range of government
priorities
• Lifting the performance of the regulatory system you steward, including through
tools such as system strategies, cross-agency agreements and evaluation and
monitoring activities
• Managing expenditure and resources in line with approved guidelines, budget,
deadlines and reporting requirements, with a focus on driving cost effectiveness
within the Ministry
• Developing and maintaining a high performing culture that supports people to
deliver to the organisation’s objectives and their own development goals
• Creating an inclusive culture, where all people feel safe, valued and that they belong
and experience growth; embedding genuine accessibility within team practices.
What you’ll
deliver
• Practical knowledge of te Tiriti o Waitangi and its principles, and significant
experience applying te Tiriti into policy, implementation and operations
• Practical experience with different types of Treaty settlement redress and ensuring
policy and/or implementation advice and organisational practice honours settlement
commitments
• Experience lifting organisational and/or functional practice and capability in applying
te Tiriti principles and te Ao Māori into work programmes
• Building and maintaining enduring relationships with and experience working closely
with Treaty partners to ensure multiple perspectives are incorporated into work
programmes
• Setting clear management team objectives and expectations and holding yourself
and others to account for delivering outcomes
• Maintaining oversight of work in your area, using metrics and reporting to identify
emerging issues and ensure effective delivery of intended outcomes
• Ensuring you and those in your area focus on achieving short and long-term
objectives
• Lifting the performance, functional maturity and capability of your area to ensure
sustainable and enhanced services over the long term

Extensive experience in establishing enduring relationships with and
experience working closely with Treaty partners to ensure multiple
perspectives are incorporated into work programmes
•
Deep practical knowledge of te Tiriti o Waitangi and its principles, and
extensive experience applying te Tiriti into policy, implementation and
operations
•
Experience leading the development and delivery of policy and/or policy
implementation advice to Ministers at a senior level
•
Experience of the design of regulatory systems using a range of frameworks
and approaches
•
Experience lifting stewardship capability in a range of regulatory systems,
including through the development of system strategies

implementation

Ability to quickly establish and build strong working relationships and to
develop and maintain effective relationships with Ministers, senior public
service officials, and internal and external stakeholders
