RESPONSES TO LTP SUBMISSIONS RE: AMALGAMATION

Council  considers  it  is  too  early  to  make  decisions  on  the  issue  of 
amalgamation  as  the  Government  has  only  recently  notified  its 
intentions  regarding  reforms  to  the  Local  Government  sector.    The 
details of changes proposed to the future form and function of Local 
Government will not be finalised until later in the 2012/2013 year, at 
the earliest.  Until this occurs Council will continue to operate under 
existing  Local  Government  legislation.  Any  consultation  with  the 
community  associated  with  these  Local  Government  reforms  will  be 
undertaken  separately  from  the  Annual  Planning  or  Long  Term  Plan 
process.

successfully together as members of the Bay of Plenty Local Authority 
Shared Services group on procurement and other operational issues.

Government  reforms,  including  governance  arrangements  will  be 
undertaken  separately  from  the  Annual  Planning  or  Long  Term  Plan

The  specific  issue  of  the  Waihi  Beach  ward  has  been  the  focus  of 
three  previous  reorganisation  proposals,  and  reviewed  by  the  Local 
Government  Commission.    Council  has  no  plans  to  revisit  this  issue 
under the current local government environment. 
 
Any  consultation  with  the  community  associated  with  the  Local 
Government  reforms  will  be  undertaken  separately  from  the  Annual 
Planning or Long Term Plan process.
