Official Information Request – CAC and DT recruitment
Tēnā koe,
Thank you for your request for information sent on 25 November 2025 requesting information as
follows.
Secondly, I would like to request an update on your progress. In your previous response, you stated that “no
shortlisting process or interviewing has commenced for either panel.” As a month has now passed, could you
please provide an update?
Thirdly, you noted that “the Council received 32 applications for the DT.” Could you please clarify how many
vacancies are available on the DT for this round and what specific roles these vacancies relate to (e.g.,
professional, lay, chair, or deputy chair)? Additionally, within the 32 applications received, could you specify
how many applicants applied for each of these roles?
The Council has considered your request under the Official Information Act (OIA) and can advise as
follows.
Following the Council’s previous response regarding CAC and DT recruitment, we can confirm that there
has been an update in numbers since your last request.
The Council received:
16 applications for CAC Panel profession members
40 applications for CAC Panel lay members
25 applications for DT Panel members
9 applications for DT Deputy Chair
Shortlisting for all positions has been finalised, with interviews scheduled to be undertaken in early
2026.
There is no limit to the number of individuals (lay or professional) who can be a member of the
Complaints Assessment Committee (CAC) or the Disciplinary Tribunal (DT). We maintain a sufficiently
large pool of appointees to allow us to provide for coverage across sectors, and geographical regions.
The number of individuals who will be appointed depends only on the suitability of applicants. However,
we are aiming to appoint around 10 people to DT Panel member positions and 5 people to the role of
DT Deputy Chair.
You have the right to seek a investigation and review by the Ombudsman of this response. Information
about how to make a complaint is available at How to make a complaint | Ombudsman New Zealand or
freephone 0800 802 602.
Nāku noa, nā
Clive Jones
Deputy Chief Executive
