OIA 25831
James
[FYI request #32855 email]
Dear James,
Thank you for your Of icial Information Act 1982 (OIA) request, transferred from the Prime
Minister, on 27 November 2025 in which you sought:
all emails if any, received by your office containing allegations against Jevon
McSkimming between December 2023 and January 2024.
As these emails have already been identified and given this matter is a nationwide
story at present, can this OIA please be treated with urgency.”
Your request for these emails is refused in full under section 9(2)(a) of the OIA, to protect the
privacy of natural persons.
If the sender of the emails is comfortable sending their correspondence to the media, that is
a matter for them. It is not for me as the recipient of the communications to disclose that
information publicly where there are privacy interests.
I consider the interests requiring protection by withholding the information are not
outweighed by the public interest in release of the information. In particular, I wish to ensure
that victims of alleged offending or inappropriate behaviour by officials can do so without fear
that their correspondence to me wil be shared publicly.
You have the right to ask the Ombudsman to review my decision if you are not satisfied with
my response to your request.
Yours sincerely
Hon Mark Mitchell
Minister of Police
