Official Information Act (OIA) request: Crash Analysis System data
On 10 November 2025, you contacted Stats NZ requesting, under the Official Information Act
1982 (the Act), the following information:
•
The most recent document held by Stats NZ that sets out the reason(s) why the Crash
Analysis System (CAS) data has not been incorporated into the Integrated Data
Infrastructure (IDI).
There is no such document that exists which sets out the reason why Crash Analysis Data has
not been incorporated into the Integrated Data Infrastructure (IDI).
Therefore, your request for this information is refused under section 18(e) of the Act as this
information does not exist or, despite reasonable efforts to locate it, cannot be found.
You may be interested to know that in late 2023, following a request from researchers, the
New Zealand Transport Agency (NZTA) – Waka Kotahi contacted Stats NZ to begin setting up
a collection by Stats NZ of the CAS data from NZTA to be integrated into the IDI for official
statistics and research.
Stats NZ and NZTA have undertaken discussions regarding the structure and content of the
data necessary to meet the requirements of relevant stakeholders. However, in mid-2024,
work on this paused due to competing priority work for both agencies.
Should you wish to discuss this response with us, please feel free to contact Stats NZ at:
