REQUEST FOR INFORMATION 2012/057 
I refer to your request for information dated 25 May 2012, which was received by Greater 
Wellington Regional Council (Greater Wellington) on 28 May 2012. You have requested the 
following information: 
“Under the Local Government Official Information and Meetings Act I request the following 
information: 
A list of all positions (job titles) directly employed by the Council, and the number of staff in each of 
those roles. Any briefings, reports, advice, transcripts, notes, correspondence, aide memoires or any 
other documents regarding any proposal to amalgamate the Council with neighbouring Councils.” 
Staff employed directly by the Council 
In accordance with the Local Government Act 2002, the Chief Executive is the only staff member 
directly employed by the Council.  The Chief Executive is responsible for employing the staff of 
Greater Wellington.  The total number of employees at Greater Wellington, including the Chief 
Executive, is 422. 
Amalgamation proposals 
There has not been any proposal to amalgamate this Council with neighbouring territorial 
authorities.  As there has been no amalgamation proposal there are no documents relating to the 
proposal.  In accordance with section 17(e) of the Local Government Official Information and 
Meetings Act 1987 (the Act) this part of your request has been refused for the reason that the   
information that you have requested does not exist. 
If you have any concerns with the decision(s) referred to in this letter, you have the right to request 
an investigation and review by the Ombudsman under section 27(3) of the Act.
