Official information request regarding the 2024 Your Voice survey and
subsequent independent review
We refer to your request for information under the Official Information Act 1982 (the
Act), dated 6 November 2025:
“I understand that in 2024 the Your Voice staff wellbeing survey was completed
by all university staff. Following this survey, an independent reviewer was
brought in to investigate the results specifically within the International Office
(IO, or WUI).
This independent review was completed around September 2024. I am curious
about any actions that are coming out of this review. I am also interested in the
University’s plans to revisit either the survey or the review to establish whether
staff concerns have been adequately addressed.
Under the OIA, please provide any documents (including, but not limited to,
memos, reports, or briefings) that reference the outcome of both the Your Voice
survey and independent review or any actions that will be taken in response.
Please also provide copies of correspondence (including, but not limited to,
emails, Teams messages, text messages, and WhatsApp messages) sent to
(including Cc’d correspondence) or sent from members of the IO team and
University senior leadership about the outcome of the survey and review or any
actions that will be taken in response to the survey and review.
Please include correspondence sent, received, or created between June 2024 and
today.”
Part of the information you have requested is enclosed. This comprises documents and
correspondence pertaining exclusively to the International Office, referencing:
§ the University’s 2024 Your Voice staff survey,
§ a subsequent independent review by Christopher Miller, and
§ the actions planned in response.
The correspondence provided is limited to communications sent to or from senior
managers whose portfolios are most closely aligned with the subject matter and senior
staff who provided direct support with relevant processes. We have conducted a search of
University systems for correspondence sent by all members of the International Office.
This search returned a substantial volume of material, and compiling these would require
significant collation and research. Accordingly, we have decided to refuse this part of your
request under section 18(f) of the Act.
Some information has been withheld, either in part or in full, under one or more of the
following sections of the Act:
§ Section 9(2)(a): To protect individuals’ privacy,
§ Section 9(2)(b)(ii): To avoid prejudice to the commercial position of another
party,
§ Section 9(2)(g)(i): To maintain the effective conduct of public affairs through the
free and frank expression of opinions,
§ Section 9(2)(ba)(i): To protect information subject to an obligation of confidence,
and
§ Section 9(2)(h): To maintain legal professional privilege.
The University uses its annual Your Voice survey to gather staff feedback, helping identify
strengths and areas for improvement. Preparation is already underway for the next
survey in 2026, which will provide valuable insights and measures for this team,
particularly in relation to previous concerns raised. By then, new leadership and team
members will have had time to embed their desired positive culture and deliver strong
outcomes.
Please note that there has been turnover within the International Office leadership over
the past year, and continuous improvements have been implemented since last year’s
survey.
