Official Information Act request: Statutory appointments
Thank you for your email of 2 November 2025 requesting information, under the Of icial
Information Act 1982 (the Act), regarding nominations for statutory appointments.
Specifically, you requested:
I noted, you have recently call for nomination for Referees, Disputes Tribunal -
Auckland Region

May I ask how you called for public nomination and on what platform you have call for
public nominations e.g. govt.jobs website. A copy of your ad as well. Also, how many
applications you have received from the public and how many you have received from
other nominating agencies such as TPK or Ministry of women etc for your role. How
many you have shortlisted and how many you have interviewed. How many vacancies
are available in this round? Also, can I request to view the appointment letter if there is
one sent to the previous appointee. I am happy for you to remove all the personal
information..
For ease of reference, I have separated out your request and responded to each part.

The position was advertised on the Ministry of Justice (the Ministry) website, in the Law
Association and New Zealand Law Society publications and was also sent to the Māori Law
Society. A copy of the advertisement is

2. “...how many applications you have received from the public and how many you
have received from other nominating agencies such as TPK or Ministry of women
etc for your role.”
Thirty-two expressions of interest have been received, all of which were submitted by
members of the public. No expressions of interest have been received from nominating
agencies.
3. “How many you have shortlisted and how many you have interviewed. How many
vacancies are available in this round.”
Shortlisting and interviewing is yet to take place and there are four vacancies.
4. Also, can I request to view the appointment letter if there is one sent to the
previous appointee. I am happy for you to remove all the personal information.
