Dear Brendon
Response to your request for information
Thank you for your request under the Official Information Act 1982 (the Act) on 28 October
to the Minister of Health, Hon Simeon Brown. You requested:
“Have you had or requested any advise on whether NZ should emulate the US
healthcare system?”
I have interpreted your request to directly relate to the question of ‘
whether NZ should
emulate the US healthcare system’, rather than including advice where the US is used as a
comparator amongst other countries. For example, how New Zealand compares to the
Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) of which the United
States is a member.
Your request has been refused under section 18(g)(i) of the Act, as the information
requested is not held by the Minister and there are no grounds for believing that the
information is held by another agency subject to the Act.
Please note that you were contacted you on the 29 October 2025 in order to clarify your
request. As you have not responded to date, the Office of Hon Simeon Brown has processed
your request as interpreted above.
Under section 28(3) of the Act, you have the right to ask the Ombudsman to review any
decisions made under this request. The Ombudsman may be contacted by email at:
[email address] or by calling 0800 802 602.
Yours sincerely
Brian Anderton
Senior Ministerial Advisor
