Kia ora koutou
Thanks for meeting with us to discuss the revision of the Standards for the teaching
profession. Both discussions were thoughtful and informative!
under the Official Information Act
As promised, here is a draft of the full set of 8 high-level standards and 33 detailed
standards (currently ‘elaboration’) that we’re currently proposing to consult on. I’ve
also attached the slides that we took you through at the meeting, which focus on the
overall structure of the proposed 8 high-level standards.
We’d value any feedback by

view on changes that we should consider
ahead of releasing the proposed changes
for consultation. Please email me, or if you prefer, arrange a time to discuss. You
will of course also have the opportunity to provide feedback as part of that
consultation process. Any further advice and guidance on the consultation process
is also very welcome.
As discussed at the meeting, we would ask that this material be not shared with your
full membership ahead of the formal consultation process in March. We would
envisage circulation being limited to your national office and national office-holders
at this time (or an equivalent that makes sense for your organisational structure). We
want to present our proposed Standards to the full profession in a way that has had
the benefit of being able to take account of your feedback, and we want to avoid

confusing or frustrating teachers by having more than one version circulating.
Thank you again for your advice and guidance as we embark on this important
project.
