Thank you for your request under the Official Information Act 1982 (the Act) to the Ministry of
Health – Manatū Hauora (the Ministry) on 27 October 2025 for information regarding
appointments to the Notifiable Product Appeal Committee (the Committee). Please find a
response to each part of your request below.
May I ask how you called for public nomination- notifiable product appeal committee and
on what platform you have call for public nominations e.g. govt.jobs website.
The vacancy on the Committee was advertised on the Ministry’s Careers webpage.
A copy of your ad as well.
A copy of the advertisement is attached to this letter as Document 1 and is released to you in
full.
Also, how many applications you have received for each of the role from the public and
how many you have received from other nominating agencies such as TPK or Ministry of
women etc for your role. How many you have shortlisted and how many you have
interviewed. How many vacancy you had for this round.
The Ministry received nine applications in total for the vacancy advertised. Please note that the
Ministry is still in the shortlisting process and has not decided which applicants to interview.
While nominating agencies were asked to nominate appropriate candidates, the Ministry only
received applications directly via the Ministry of Health Careers webpage. Therefore, it is
unclear how many candidates were referred.

Vacancy on the Notifiable Products Appeals Committee
On behalf of the Associate Minister of Health, Hon Casey Costello, the Ministry of Health – Manatū
Hauora (the Ministry) is seeking candidates who wish to be considered for appointment as a
chairperson or member of the Notifiable Products Appeals Committee (the Committee) under the
Smokefree Environments and Regulated Products Act 1990 (the Act).
About the role –Kōrero mō te tūranga
The purpose of the Committee is to provide notifiers (manufacturers and importers) of notifiable
products (vaping, herbal smoking, and smokeless tobacco products) an appeals process if the
Director-General of Health suspends or cancels a product notification. The Committee will assess
information provided by the Ministry and by notifiers, and to decide whether the Director-General
of Health has made a fair and transparent decision to suspend or cancel a product notification.
The chairperson is expected to take on additional duties such as facilitating discussions in
Committee meetings, review meeting minutes, and manage conflicts of interest if they arise.
ACT 1982
Appointments to the Committee are made by the Associate Minister of Health, typically for terms
of three years.
About you – Kōrero mōu
For all applicants, governance and/or regulatory experience is a plus but not required. It is
beneficial if you have experience in strategic leadership and can balance competing demands.
INFORMATION
Preferred skills and attributes for the position(s) include:
experience in representing the public interest,
experience in process management, and
experience in legal settings or health settings preferred, but not necessary.
The Committee is expected to convene four times per year, and individuals on the Committee are
expected to make every effort to attend all scheduled meetings and devote sufficient time to
become familiar with the Committee’s affairs and the wider environment in which it operates.
