Tēnā koe Mohammed,
Request for information (OIA 2526-0769)
I refer to your further request for information made under the Official Information Act 1982
to the Department of Internal Affairs (the Department). You requested the fol owing
information:
Dear RIS Official Correspondence,
The basis for this denial is grossly dishonest.
I did not ask for a detailed project description of each grant, and a map of any works
conducted.
I asked for "the recipient of the funding and the total money awarded".
I already know, as does every Muslim in NZ, that despite the fact that the zionist Brenton
Tarrant attacked OUR MOSQUES, only a tiny fraction of funding from the Safer Communities
Fund went to mosques, to build small fences where they did not previously exist and reinforce
particularly insecure doors. Nor is this some secret to the zionists- they got all the money that
was supposed to protect us from their fel ow-travellers like Tarrant.
Provide me with the information, or I wil need to pursue this with the Ombudsman.
Response to your request
On 28 January 2026, you were advised that the Department had considered your further
request and had decided to partially grant your request by providing high level details
regarding the Safer Communities Fund.
The total amount of funding that has been al ocated under the Safer Communities Fund
since 2019 to date is detailed in the table below:
Safer Communities Fund
Total
Muslim community
$9,432,958
Jewish community
$8,441,260
Rainbow community
$10,000
Please note, the Department is refusing your request for a breakdown of the individual
recipients of the funding under section 6(d) of the OIA. The Department has made this decision
because our view is that releasing information about the individual organisations that received
funding has the potential expose security vulnerabilities. Section 6(d) states that:
Section 6 (d) - Good reason for withholding official information exists, if the making
available of that information would be likely to endanger the safety of any person.
I hope that providing high level details goes some way towards satisfying your request. I also
note that in the Department’s previous response to you section 9(2)(c) was referenced. In
reconsidering your request, we have identified that section 6(d) is more appropriate in the
circumstances. I apologise for the error in the previous response.
If you have any concerns with the information in this response, you have a right to request an
investigation and review by the Ombudsman under section 28(3) of the Act. Information on
how to do this is available at www.ombudsman.parliament.nz or freephone 0800 802 602.
Nāku noa, nā
