Official Information Act request
Thank you for your email of 23 October 2025, requesting information regarding
the appointment to the Independent Monitor of the Oranga Tamariki System (the
Monitor) of Dr Angela Jury.
I have considered your request under the Official Information Act 1982 (the Act).
Please find my decision on your request set out below.
Public nominations were sought through advertisements on Seek
(www.seek.co.nz) and the Institute of Directors
(www.iod.org.nz).
A total of 32 applications were received: one nomination from a nominating
agency, three nominations from Coalition parties, and 28 applications from the
public.
A selection panel produced an initial shortlist of seven applications. Following the
initial shortlist being reviewed by the Minister for Social Development and
Employment, an additional four potential candidates were contacted for
consideration.
Please see attached the Appointment Letter sent to Dr Angela Jury and the related
Appointment Instrument. Please note some information is withheld under section
9(2)(a) of the Act, to protect the privacy of natural persons. The need to protect
the privacy of these individuals outweighs any public interest in this information.
