Thank you for your email of 16 October 2025, your request for information has been 
considered under the Of icial Information Act 1982 (OIA). 
The three parts of your request have been numbered for convenience. 
Your request was: 
" 1. I would like a breakdown of wasted foods at supermarkets. 
2. What is the policy for shelf life 
3. Where does it go" 
On 22 October, my Of ice transferred part two of your request to the Ministry for Primary 
Industries (MPI) as that part of your request was more closely to connected to the functions 
of MPI. 
I am refusing the remaining parts of your request under section 18(e) of the OIA because the 
information that you have requested does not exist despite reasonable efforts to locate it. 
Waste is generally a matter for the Ministry for the Environment (MfE). MfE has informed my 
Of ice that they do not hold statistics on supermarket food waste as these are decisions 
made by the supermarkets themselves.
