Thank you for your email of 6 October 2025 to the Ministry of Education (the Ministry) requesting 
the following information:  
Since the current Government assumed office on 27 November 2023 to the present 
day: 

1.  how many jobs have been disestablished within the Ministry of Education? 
2.  how many disestablishments affected Māori specific roles, teams or entities? 
3.  how many of these disestablished roles were held by Māori (by ethnicity)? 
4.  how many of these disestablishments were held by wāhine Māori? 
Your request has been considered under the Official Information Act 1982 (the Act) and numbered 
for administrative ease. We have interpreted “jobs” to mean role or position. 
Regarding part one of your request, please see Table 1 at Appendix A
The Ministry does not define roles or teams as Māori specific. I am therefore refusing part two of 
your request under section 18(g) as the information requested is not held by the Ministry, and I 
have no grounds for believing that it is either held by, or connected more closely with the functions 
of another organisation or agency subject to the Act. However, I can provide the number of 
positions disestablished in Te Pou Tuarongo | Māori Education division as a result of the Savings 
Programme in 2024. Please see Table 2 at Appendix A

Regarding part three and four of your request, please see Table 3 at Appendix A. Please note 
that ethnicity and gender are based on what an employee has selected in the HR system. 
Please note, employees in roles that were disestablished may have been redeployed to other roles 
within the Ministry, taken voluntary redundancy or been made redundant.
