Tēnā koe Mike
Thank you for your email of 2 October 2025 to the Ministry of Business, Innova0on and Employment
(MBIE) reques0ng, under the Official Informa0on Act 1982 (the Act), the following informa0on:
1. Copies of all correspondence between Standards New Zealand and HUD rela ng to any
proposals, discussions, or considera ons about reviewing or amending NZS 8510:2017 (Tes ng
and decontamina on of methamphetamine-contaminated proper es), including but not limited to
changes to the contamina on threshold levels.
2. Copies of any internal correspondence within Standards New Zealand (including but not
limited to emails, memos, or mee ng notes) rela ng to NZS 8510:2017.
3. Copies of any correspondence between Standards New Zealand and external par es (such as
government agencies, industry groups, or members of the public) about NZS 8510:2017.
4. Copies of all correspondence between HUD and Standards New Zealand rela ng to any
proposals, discussions, or considera ons about reviewing or amending any NZ Standard.
For clarity, I am seeking informa on from 1 January 2018 to the present day.
I am wri0ng to advise you that MBIE will provide a response but needs to extend the 0me available to
answer your request. MBIE’s response will be sent to you no later than 2 February 2026. We will
endeavour to get this informa0on to you sooner if possible.
The reason for the extension is that your request is for a large quan0ty of informa0on and necessitates a
significant search through a large quan0ty of historical records. There is also an obliga0on on us to consult
with other par0es. Mee0ng the original 0me limit would unreasonably interfere with our business
opera0ons given the available capacity to undertake this work.
If you wish to discuss any aspect of your request or this response, or if you require any further assistance,
please contact [email address].
You have the right to seek an inves0ga0on and review by the Ombudsman of our decision to extend the
0me limit. Informa0on about how to make a complaint is available at www.ombudsman.parliament.nz or
freephone 0800 802 602.
Nāku noa, nā
Malcolm MacMillan
