The below is a summary of stakeholders in New Zealand’s refrigerants sector that are
actively seeking to collect used HFCs.

Trust for the Destruction of Synthetic Refrigerants (the Trust, Cool-Safe)
o The Trust runs the “Cool-Safe” takeback scheme (paying $40/kg for HFCs, CFCs,
and HCFCs).
o The Trust has been operating since 1993 and has had an accredited product
stewardship scheme since 2010.

A-Gas and Actrol (Rapid Exchange and Drop-a-JUG)
o A-Gas is a large international company specialising in the supply and lifecycle
management of refrigerants, including a focus on reclamation services.
o A-Gas is partnered with Actrol (a commercial refrigeration wholesaler) to deliver
the “Rapid Exchange” and “Drop-a-JUG” services for reclaiming used gases.
o A-Gas and Actrol both work closely with the Heat Pump Suppliers Association of
New Zealand (representative of most of the manufacturers providing heat pumps
into the New Zealand market).

Beijer Ref, Patton and RealCold (Gas2Go)
o Beijer Ref is a large multinational corporation which employs approximately 6,000
people and provides commercial and industrial refrigeration, heating and air
conditioning products globally.
