Official information request for AI tools used by Crown Law
Our Ref: OIA-2526052
I refer to your official information request dated 1 October 2025 for:
1. Which AI tools has the Crown Law Office purchased subscriptions or licenses for, eg AI
Governance Deck, ChaptGPT, IVO AI 2. What was the date of purchase?
3. What is the annual licence cost for each tool?
4. How long
is the current license or subscription agreement for?
Crown Law is testing various generative AI productivity services, with 3 individual services
active now. These have not been implemented broadly and are currently used in contained
test groups. The tools are:
• Microsoft Copilot 365: this is part of the organisation’s Enterprise Agreement
licensing with Microsoft. Five licenses are allocated to individual users, with the
total cost $2551.55 starting in September 2025 as part of the annual license
renewal. These licenses can be deactivated at any time but cannot be removed from
the Enterprise Agreement until the next renewal date in September 2026.
• Google Gemini: costs $443.88 annually. This subscription was started in July 2025
and can be cancelled with one months’ notice. It is not anticipated to be used
beyond December 2025, so the full annual cost is unlikely to be incurred.
• ChatGPT Plus: costs $410.40 annually. This subscription was started in July 2025 and
can be cancelled with one months’ notice. It is not anticipated to be used beyond
December 2025, so the full annual cost is unlikely to be incurred.
