Official Information Act request: Communications with NZME 
 
Thank you for your Official Information Act 1982 (the Act) request, received on 30 September 
2025. You requested: 
 
“Under the OIA, I request any communications between your office and any 
employee of NZME between 4:30pm and 5:03pm on 29 September 2025.” 
 
There is one email dated 29 September 2025 from this office to NZME within scope of your 
request. I have decided to release the email with some information withheld under section 
9(2)(a) of the Act to protect the privacy of natural persons.  
 
The letter dated 29 September 2025 from the Prime Minister, Rt Hon Christopher Luxon to 
the Rt Hon Chris Hipkins, Leader of the Opposition is attached to the email. The letter is 
released in full.  
 
In making my decision, I have considered the public interest considerations in section 9(1) of 
the Act. No public interest has been identified that would be sufficient to outweigh the 
reasons for withholding that information. 
 
You have the right to ask the Ombudsman to investigate and review my decision under 
section 28(3) of the Act.
