Kia ora Porirua Electoral Team,
My name is Yan Zhang, and I’m honoured to be standing as a candidate
for the Onepoto Ward in this year’s local elections.
I’m a solo mum from Titahi Bay, raising a bright neurodivergent boy,
and a Justice of the Peace candidate deeply committed to inclusive and
community-focused governance.

I have walked the hard road caregiving budgeting surviving and it was community that
lifted me up
Now I am working to give back and help grow what we already love building support that
is visible local and lasting
We all cherish the Love Local Expo that once a year moment where stories are shared and
people feel seen and valued
What if that spirit was here every day online and on the ground powered by all of us
Imagine a shared kitchen where locals gain food safety training and sell homemade kai
legally a sensory friendly lounge where trained volunteers homeschool children while
parents enjoy a quiet cuppa and breathe
I am already working with local families and groups to bring this vision to life
Let us build a Porirua where no one is left behind where community means everyone your
voice makes it possible

While reviewing the candidate form today, I noticed a small item that
may be a typographical error. In the section listing ward options, it refers
to “Pariroa Māori Ward”, which I believe may have been intended as
“Porirua Māori Ward.” I understand this may simply be a minor
oversight, but I thought I’d kindly bring it to your attention in case any
correction or clarification is needed.
