Request for information 
Thank you for your Official Information Act 1982 (OIA) request of 15 September 2025. 
You requested: 
“Under the OIA please provide the following. 
The initial request from organisers to Police requesting 
permission/assistance/consultation regarding the Free Palestine march held over the 
weekend. 
Al  communications if any, regarding consideration and approval for the march to cross 
the Auckland Harbour bridge.” 
Please find attached emails and other correspondence between NZ Police, New Zealand 
Transport Authority (NZTA), Protest Organisers and other interested parties, with the 
decision making of the proposed Hikoi, over the Auckland Harbour Bridge on Saturday 13 
September 2025. 
Police is withholding the Operations Orders and Commanders Intent papers pursuant to 
section 6(c) of the OIA, as the making available of the information would be likely to 
prejudice the maintenance of the law, including the prevention, investigation, and 
detection of offences, and the right to a fair trial. 
Police is withholding some further information pursuant to the fol owing sections of the 
OIA:  
• 9(2)(a), to protect the privacy of natural persons, including that of deceased
natural persons.

9(2)(c), to avoid prejudice to measures protecting the health or safety of
members of the public.
• 9(2)(g)(i), to maintain the effective conduct of public affairs through the free and
frank expression of opinions by or between or to Ministers of the Crown or
members of an organisation or officers and employees of any public service
agency or organisation in the course of their duty.
Please note that NZTA is the agency responsible for deciding whether to grant 
permission to walk on the Auckland Harbour BridgePolice, NZTA and Auckland 
Transport are required to work with event organisers to ensure the event takes place 
safely and that event organisers understand and fulfil their obligations and responsibilities 
for the event. 



Police considers the interests requiring protection by withholding the information are not 
outweighed by any public interest in release of the information.

Zealand Police website.
