Avifauna Values Assessment
8 August 2025
This document presents a comprehensive avifauna survey
9(2)(b)(ii)
August 2025
throughout the Bendigo-Ophir Gold Project (BOGP).
9(2)(ba)(i)
BOGP Ecological Study Area (ESA), which will inform the
project's Assessment of Environmental E*ects (AEE).
AEE to be reported separately. It establishes a comprehensive
baseline of the avifauna within the ESA.
Results demonstrate the area's avifauna and emphasise the
importance of thoughtfully addressing potential
consequences of planned mining operations. The information
contained in the report informs the AEE and will guide the
implementation of an e*ective
avifauna management framework at the site. The
consideration of potential adverse e*ects on avifauna
values and their management are addressed in the Ecological
E*ects Assessment prepared by Alliance
Ecology Ltd.
Lizard Values Assessment
6 August 2025
The assessment describes the lizard values within the Direct

August 2025
Disturbance Footprint (DDF) at the project site and the wider
9(2)(ba)(i)
Ecological Survey Area (ESA). The report details what species
were found within the DFF and ESA and assesses the lizard
habitat on site. The report provides detail on desktop
assessment, survey results and describes potential and actual
adverse e*ects and potential options for management of
e*ects.
Vegetation Values Assessment 8 August 2025
This report describes the vegetation values within the DDF, and 9(2)(b)(ii)
August 2025
the Surrounding Landscape of the Bendigo-Ophir Gold Project. 9(2)(ba)(i)
We conclude that, while the DDF is heavily modified from its
pre-human state, as it has been subject to vegetation
clearance and grazing for over 100 years, it contains very high
ecological value and ecologically significant vegetation
communities, including at least supporting Nationally or
Regionally At Risk or Threatened plant species.

Wetland Values Assessment

provides summary of potential e*ects to consider in the

Assessment of Environmental E*ects (still being prepared).
• Wetland values – 290 natural inland wetlands identified in
ESA
• Methods used to investigate wetland extent and type
• Ecological context of ESA & wider Dunstan Mts
• Classification/description of wetlands
• Wetland plant species inventory
• Assessment of wetland condition & value/significance

considerations for the proposed project. Key themes include:
9(2)(ba)(i)
Comments
9(2)(g)(i)
• Land Status & Permissions: The mine is outside Public
Conservation Land (PCL). Some conservation approvals will
be required for proposed ancillary works on adjoining PCL
where consideration of fees and bonds will be applicable.
DOC also notes that e*ects should be appropriately identified
and managed.
• Infrastructure Changes: Proposed road realignments and
new routes intersect conservation areas. Detail is provided
around preferred approach to resolve issues that may arise
and potential options for longer term management of these
proposals.
• Public Access: Loss of existing access is proposed to be
mitigated by creating new access including walking/cycling
tracks/roads. DOC’s view is that the e*ects of in relation to
conservation approvals should directly be assessed and
mitigated as appropriate, ensuring adequate consideration of
conservation values including but not limited to heritage,
biodiversity, recreation.
• Policy Alignment: Applications should demonstrate
consideration of the relevant Conservation Management
Strategy (CMS), as required by the FTAA
BHV feedback on

The feedback reviews a lizard assessment for the Bendigo-

Ophir Gold Project. It finds the assessment generally adequate 9(2)(ba)(i)
documents Bendigo Ophir
but highlights key gaps: species misidentification, missing

location data, and unclear mitigation plans. Overall, DOC’s
view is that further detail is required to ensure e*ects and
appropriate mitigations are identified.
Critique of the Habitat NZ

The review provides feedback on an invertebrate assessment

invertebrate report. W. Chinn_
for the Bendigo-Ophir Gold Project. It concludes that while the
9(2)(ba)(i)
report is extensive, it lacks clarity and ecological context. Key
9(2)(g)(i)
concerns include inconsistent species counts, insu*icient
background on the area’s ecology, and inconsistent
presentation of findings and has suggested actions which
could be undertaken to remedy these concerns.
