Dear John,
Thank you for your email of 13 September 2025 to the Ministry of Business, Innovation and
Employment (MBIE), requesting, under the Official Information Act 1982 (the Act), the following
information:
I noted, you have recently call for nomination for the following:
New Zealand Institute for Advanced Technology - Chair
New Zealand Standards Approval Board – 2 members
New Zealand Standards Approval Board – Chair
May I ask how you called for public nomination and on what platform you have call for public
nominations for the each above, e.g. govt.jobs website. A copy of your ad as well. Also, how
many applications you have received for each of the role from the public and how many you
have received from other nominating agencies such as TPK or Ministry of women etc for your
role. How many you have shortlisted and how many you have interviewed. Also, can I request to
view the appointment letter if there is one sent to the previous appointee.
Please see below my response to your request.
Public nominations for
the
New Zealand Institute for Advanced Technology (NZIAT) Chair position
were as follows:
• Public nominations were sought through Jobs.Govt.nz, Seek, MBIE careers website and
LinkedIn.
• The adverts were also circulated through nominating agencies, specifically Ministry for Women,
Ministry for Ethnic Communities, Ministry for Pacific Peoples, Ministry of Disabled People, and
Te Puni Kokiri. Caucus and coalition colleagues were invited to nominate candidates.
• Job advertisement is enclosed with this response. Position description is also available here:

• We received 23 applications in total for the Chair position.
• We did not receive any applications via nominating agencies or Ministerial nominees.
• We have not yet shortlisted any candidates, nor conducted any interviews.
• There have been no previous appointments to the NZIAT Chair position, it is a new position and
it is a live process at this stage, therefore there are no appointment letters available.

New Zealand Standards Approval Board (NZSAB) two Members and Chair
positions were as follows:
• Public nominations were sought through Jobs.Govt.nz, Seek, MBIE careers website and
LinkedIn.
• The adverts were also circulated through nominating agencies, specifically Ministry for Women,
Ministry for Ethnic Communities, Ministry for Pacific Peoples, Ministry of Disabled People, and
Te Puni Kokiri. Caucus and coalition colleagues were invited to nominate candidates.
• Job advertisements and position descriptions are enclosed with this response.
• We received 42 applications in total for the Member positions and 9 applications in total for the
Chair position.
• We did not receive any applications via nominating agencies or Ministerial nominees.
• We have not yet shortlisted any candidates, nor conducted any interviews.
• The most recent appointment letter for the Member position has already been provided to you
with response of 25 July 2025 to your previous request DOIA-REQ-0017065.
• A copy of the
appointment letter sent to the previous Chair of NZSAB is also enclosed with this
response. Please note that some information in this letter is withheld under section 9(2)(a) of
the Act to protect the privacy of natural persons. I do not consider that the withholding of this
information is outweighed by public interest considerations in making the information available.
