Thank you for your Official Information Act 1982 (OIA) request of 9 September 2025. You
requested:
Please can you provide copies of al electronic communications regarding
OIA request IR-01-25-14691
Such as internal or external emails or other electronic communication
methods regarding this request within NZ Police or other agencies from the
date this OIA request was submitted until now.
Please find the copies of communication relating to IR-01-25-14691 enclosed.
I have removed any duplicate copies and provided the most recent email thread.
However, you will find some parts of the email threads have been repeated. This is to
ensure Police provide a comprehensive response and don’t exclude any emails.
Please note that it has been necessary to withhold some information under the fol owing
sections of the OIA:

9(2)(a) to protect the privacy of natural persons

9(2)(g)(i) to maintain the effective conduct of public affairs through the free and
frank expression of opinions by or between or to Ministers of the Crown or
members of an organisation of officers and employees of any Department or
organisation in the course of their duty.

section 2(1) of the OIA, as unless the context otherwise requires, official
information (i) does not include information contained in any correspondence or
communication which has taken place between the office of the Ombudsmen
and the Police and which relates to an investigation conducted by an
Ombudsman under this Act or under the Ombudsmen Act 1975, other than
information that came into existence before the commencement of that
investigation.
Draft responses attached to emails are withheld under section 9(2)(g)(i) of the OIA.
In addition, I have not included copies of correspondence between yourself and Police in
relation to this request, as you wil already have these.
Police considers the interests requiring protection by withholding the information are not
outweighed by any public interest in release of the information.
Please note that as part of its commitment to openness and transparency, Police
proactively releases some information and documents that may be of interest to the

public. An anonymised version of this response may be publicly released on the New
Zealand Police website.
