Dear Aaron,
Official Information Act request: Communication with a friend who contacted Travis
Kelce
Thank you for your Official Information Act 1982 (the Act) request, received on 6 September
2025. You requested:
“You were recently quoted as saying (in response to the social media video you made
about Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce) that:
‘One of my best friends in America is actual y in business with Travis, so he actual y got
a reply back from Travis. He loved the offer and asked jokingly whether he could get a
passport.’
Please provide evidence to support this statement. I would expect this would include
either the correspondence from your ‘friend’ or a record noting when and how your
“friend” corresponded with you. I’d also like to know the name of this ‘friend’.”
The information you have requested is not official information under the Act. Official
information is defined in section 2 of the Act as any information held by a public service
agency, organisation, or Minister of the Crown in their official capacity. The communications
referenced in the media reporting was sent and received by Rt Hon Christopher Luxon in his
capacity as a private individual and not in his official capacity as Prime Minister. As such,
there is no official information relevant to your request.
You have the right to ask the Ombudsman to investigate and review my decision under
section 28(3) of the Act.
Yours sincerely,
Cameron Burrows
Chief of Staff
