Request
The purpose of this information update is to provide you with the current list of members of
the contributing groups for the next phase of development of the remaining New Zealand
Curriculum (NZC) learning areas.
Information
Alignment with Government priorities
This information update aligns with Government priorities to establish a knowledge-rich
curriculum grounded in the science of learning.
Official
Information
On 4 December 2024, we provided you with an Education Report on the revised curriculum
the
development approach for the remaining learning areas and wāhanga ako within the NZC
and Te Marautanga o Aotearoa [METIS 1340921 refers].
Lessons learnt in 2024 through the development of English and Te Reo Rangatira Years 0-
6, and mathematics & statistics and pāngarau Years 0-8 have informed the redesigned
approach for 2025.
under
As part of the revised approach, we are transitioning to using smaller contributing groups for
each development phase. These groups provide the expert knowledge required for
curriculum development. Membership wil evolve over the curriculum development cycle in
response to the needs at a given phase of development.
Contributors are nominated by relevant associations or sector groups for each phase. The
Ministry wil agree nominations once assured that there is the right mix of expertise in the
Released
group and that each contributor is aware of the requirements of the role and capacity to work
within the timeframe.
The contributing groups wil provide guidance, input, and expert knowledge, but are not
expected to engage in ful time writing. The actual writing wil be undertaken by technical
writers in the Ministry to expedite the process.
1
Contributing group members for the current development phase of the remaining NZC
learning areas are listed in table one below. We wil look to make changes to the contributing
groups throughout the development where new or dif erent expertise or experience is
required. We wil also make changes as people leave or as skil gaps are identified.
Membership of the contributing group for the Technology learning area remains as was
advised to you on 19 September 2024 [METIS 1336105 refers]. This is due to the
development of the draft curriculum content being at an advanced stage and not wanting to
disrupt the progress made to date. A stocktake of work within the Technology learning area
and subsequent review of next steps in line with the revised development process occurred
in January 2025. As a result, no changes to the current contributing group are proposed at
this time, however, the development of the learning area wil align with the new approach 1982
shared with you in December 2024 [METIS 1340921 refers].
