Tēnā koe Ben
Thank you for your request of 2 September 2025 to Te Kaunihera o Pōneke | Wellington City Council
(the Council) requesting the fol owing information:
“I'm a keen MTB rider and love the trails around Brooklyn and Te Kopahou. The view from
that ridge is the best in Wel y. Can you tell me why Council has erected the trespass warning
signs al along the road to the Radar Hil - is it in relation to the Zipline planned from there? I
remember seeing on TV that Council planned for a Zipline in hil s above Brooklyn. Can you
tell me if it is stil going ahead and what the hold up is? If there is any information about what's
going on can you supply it to me - I'd love to know.”
Your request has been considered under the Local Government Of icial Information and Meetings Act
1987 (LGOIMA).
Please see the below two images for reference:

The trespass sign is marked by a green circle in Image - 01. Airways installed a gate on the fence line
over 20 years ago following consultation with a local resident, in order to access the Airways
antennae (marked with a red circle in Image - 01). The access point through this gate is not located
on Council-owned land, as shown in Image - 02, the unshaded area represents private property.
If someone were to access the Hawkins Hil Radar Dome from the carpark at the wind turbine, the
Council does not own the land on the right-hand side of this road.
Regarding the proposed zipline, the applicant was granted Landowner approval by Council in 2018,
which required a committee signoff. The applicant then applied for Resource Management Act (RMA)
approvals, which were granted. To the best of our knowledge, the project is currently on hold at the
applicant’s discretion.
I trust this information is helpful. If you have any concerns about this response please contact
of [email address]. Alternatively, you are advised of your right to raise any concerns
with the Of ice of the Ombudsman at
