August 2025 to the Office of Hon Louise Upston was transferred in full under section 14(b)(i) of the Act
on 29 August 2025 for response to the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment (MBIE). Your

May I ask how you called for public nomination and on what platform you have call for public
nominations e.g. govt.jobs website. A copy of your ad as wel . Also, how many applications you
have received from the public and how many you have received from other nominating agencies
such as TPK or Ministry of women etc for your role. How many you have shortlisted and how
many you have interviewed. Also, can I request to view the appointment letter if there is one
sent to the appointee. I am happy for you to remove all the personal information.
Also, may I request the job description for the appointed role and what's pay rate?

Public nominations for
the
New Zealand Tourism Board positions were as follows:
• Public nominations were sought through Seek, jobs.govt, MBIE jobs and LinkedIn
• Ministerial nominations were also sought, and the advert was circulated through nominating
agencies, specifically Ministry for Women, Ministry for Ethnic Communities, Ministry for Pacific
Peoples, Ministry of Disabled People, and Te Puni Kokiri.
• Ad / Position descriptions are enclosed with this response.
• Members are paid a fee of $20,000 per year.
• We received 161 applications in total.

• Of these applications, 1 was endorsed by the Ministry of Ethnic Communities and 3 from the
Ministry for Women.
• 15 candidates were shortlisted and interviewed for three roles.

appointment and reappointment letters sent to six appointees are also enclosed with this
response. Please note that some information in these letters is withheld under section 9(2)(a) of the Act
to protect the privacy of natural persons.
I do not consider that the withholding of this information is outweighed by public interest
considerations in making the information available.
