Response to your request under the Official Information Act 1982 
 
I acknowledge your email to the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment received on 21 
August 2025. On 27 August 2025, your request for the following information was partially transferred 
to the New Zealand Customs Service (Customs) under the Of icial Information Act 1982 (the Act): 
 
“I would also like to know the numbers of New Zealand citizens who have travelled to Israel 
in the last two years to august 2025 for the purpose of aligning with the Israel 'war on gaza'. 
as sympathisers of the IDF/IOF” 
 
Customs only holds passenger movements travelling into and from New Zealand by recording the 
passenger’s  immediate arrival and departure port. As there are no direct flights between New 
Zealand and Israel, Customs does not hold the number of New Zealand Citizens who have travelled 
to Israel between 27 August 2023 and 27 August 2025.  
 
Additionally, Customs does not collect the purpose for passengers’ international travel from New 
Zealand, therefore Customs holds no information on whether New Zealand citizens have travelled 
to Isreal for the purpose of aligning with the Israeli ‘war on Gaza’.  
 
Therefore, your request is refused in full under section 18(e) of the Act, that the document alleged 
to contain the information requested does not exist or, despite reasonable efforts to locate 
it, cannot be found.  
You have the right, by way of complaint to the Of ice of the Ombudsman under section 28(3) of the 
Act, to seek an investigation and review of this decision. Information about how to make a complaint
