Authority in 2025.
We are seeking nominations from those with knowledge and experience relating to
conservation, natural sciences, and recreation. Understanding of board functions and
previous governance experience are an advantage.

New Zealand Conservation Authority / Te Pou Atawhai Taiao o Aotearoa Vacancies 2025
The Minister of Conservation is seeking nominations for membership of the New Zealand
Conservation Authority / Te Pou Atawhai Taiao o Aotearoa.
The Authority is a statutory public entity that provides strategic advice to the Minister and
Director-General of Conservation on conservation matters of national importance, and
approves statutory conservation management strategies and plans.
The Minister will be seeking to appoint two (2) public members to the Authority. In making
appointments, the Minister will have regard for the interests of conservation, natural sciences,
and recreation. Understanding of board functions and previous governance experience are an
advantage.
Appointments will take effect from 1 July 2025 and be for a term of up to three years.

It gives me great pleasure to appoint you as a member of the New Zealand Conservation
Authority |Te Pou Atawhai Taiao O Aotearoa (Authority) under section 6D of the Conservation
Act 1987, for a term beginning immediately and expiring on 30 June 2028.
I look to the Authority to provide me with the best possible professional support and advice
in a timely and appropriate manner. It is imperative that Authority members are well advised
and understand their collective and individual duties and responsibilities. The integrity of the
Authority is paramount, and open, transparent, and defensible processes are fundamental to
this integrity.
The Authority meets every two months, usually in Wellington. Two meetings per year are
hosted by Conservation Boards around the Motu. The next meeting is scheduled for 8 and 9
October in Kaitaia, Northland.
Members receive a daily meeting fee of $450 and the direct expenses associated with meeting
attendance are met directly by the Department of Conservation or reimbursed.
Dr Rick McGovern-Wilson, NZCA Executive Officer from the Department, will be in contact
with you shortly to provide you with information on your duties as an Authority member and
arrangements for the October meeting.
