Offer of re-appointment to the Fiordland Marine Guardians
I am pleased to advise that you have been re-appointed as a member of the Fiordland
Marine Guardians (the Guardians). I would like to congratulate you on your appointment.
Conditions of appointment
Your re-appointment for four years is made pursuant to section 15 of the Fiordland (Te
Moana o Atawhenua) Marine Management Act 2005 and wil commence on 1 August 2025.
Please note that there is no guarantee of further re-appointment at the expiration of this
term.
Functions and duties
I would like to inform you of the role and my expectations of you as a member of the
Guardians.
Under the Fiordland (Te Moana o Atawhenua) Marine Management Act 2005, the Fiordland
Marine Guardians are responsible for providing advice to management agencies1 and
Ministers on the management of the Fiordland Marine Area.
A full position description for the Guardians is attached to this letter. I expect that the
Guardians wil meet for around four to five full-day meetings each year (with additional
preparation time required for each meeting).
To resign from this position, you must notify the Minister for the Environment in writing. The
Minister for the Environment may, by notice in writing, remove any member of the Guardians
at any time if the member is unable to perform the functions of office, is under a legal
incapacity, is bankrupt, has neglected his or her duties as a member, or has been guilty of
misconduct.
Remuneration
1 Ministry for the Environment, Ministry for Primary Industries, Department of Conservation and Environment
Southland.
The terms and conditions of remuneration wil be as detailed in the attached position
description. This includes the daily fee for members of the Guardians as $308 per day, for
work that is required for the board to carry out its role. The Chair is paid $396 per day. You
are also entitled, in accordance with the Government Fees Framework, to be reimbursed for
actual and reasonable travel ing and other expenses incurred in carrying out your duties of
office as a member of the Guardians.
Conflict of Interest
You have declared potential conflicts of interests during the application process which led to
your appointment. Actual, potential, or perceived conflicts are actively identified and
managed in accordance with the Guardian’s Conflict of Interest Policy and Register. If you
subsequently identify any further conflicts of interest, you wil be required to notify these to
the Ministry for the Environment.
