Lottery Community Committees
Purpose
There are 11 regionally based lottery community distribution committees. These commit ees
consider applications for funding from the profits of New Zealand Lot eries. The following
committees are part of the call for nominations in this year’s appointment round:
• Lottery Northland Community Commit ee (1 Presiding Member, 1 member)
• Lottery Auckland Community Commit ee (3 members)
• Lottery Waikato Community Commit ee (1 member)
• Lottery Bay of Plenty Community Commit ee (2 members)
• Lottery Hawke’s Bay Community Commit ee (1 Presiding Member, 1 member)
• Lottery Manawatū/Whanganui Community Committee (1 Presid ng Member,
2 members)
• Lottery Wellington/Wairarapa Community Commit ee (2 members)
• Lottery West Coast/Nelson Community Committee (1 Presiding Member, 3 members)
• Lottery Canterbury/Kaikōura Community Commit ee (1 Presiding Member,

Commitment
Lottery regional community commit ees usually receive between 50 to 100+ applications
each round, generally two rounds in a year, one in March and one in October.
For each round, members are usually required to attend a one-day meeting to make
decisions on the applications received.
Members tend to spend up to two days of preparatory work prior to each meeting.
Remuneration
The commit ees are classified under the Cabinet Fees Framework [CO (22)] as group 4,
level 4 at a daily rate of $232 for members and $313 for presiding members.
Members and presiding members wil be reimbursed for any preparatory work, meetings, and
administrative work.

Purpose
Lottery Community Facilities Commit ee considers grants to support organisations to build
new community facilities or to improve existing community facilities.

Lottery Environment and Heritage Committee
On behalf of the Minister of Internal Affairs, the Department of Internal Af airs is seeking
candidates interested in serving as the Presiding Member of Lottery Environment and
Heritage Commit ee.
Purpose
Lottery Environment and Heritage Committee grants are for projects which promote, protect
and conserve New Zealand's natural, physical and cultural heritage such as:
• native flora and fauna regeneration projects
• captive breeding programmes including animal release programmes
• pest and predator eradication programmes
• historical publications and oral histories
• conservation of moveable cultural property
• museum, whare taonga, archive facility and art gal ery capital works, and
• conservation of historic buildings, structures, rolling stock, archaeological sites and
waahi tapu.
Skil s and Experience
Required

• business knowledge.
Desirable
• grant distribution experience.

Lottery Health Research
On behalf of the Minister of Internal Affairs, the Department of Internal Af airs is seeking
candidates to fill two roles on the Lottery Health Research Committee:
• Presiding Member; and
• Member
Purpose
The Lottery Health Research Commit ee provides funding for research projects that wil
improve the health status of New Zealanders. It distributes grants for:
• research into the cause, prevention and treatment of disorders affecting the health of
New Zealanders
• research that wil lead to advances in health and bio-medical science for the ultimate
benefit of all New Zealanders, and
• the development, maintenance and retention of a highly skil ed workforce of health
and bio-medical researchers in New Zealand.

Lottery Individuals with Disabilities Committee
On behalf of the Minister of Internal Affairs, the Department of Internal Af airs is seeking
candidates to fill the following roles on the Lottery Individuals with Disabilities Committee:
• 1 Presiding Member; and
• 3 Members
Purpose
The Committee allocates grants for mobility and communication equipment to help people
with disabilities achieve independence and gain access to the community. This can include
assistance dogs, communication equipment, vehicles, vehicle modifications, scooters and
other mobility equipment.
Required skil s and experience
General
• first-hand experience in community groups,
• management skil s, and
• business knowledge.
Desirable
• grant distribution experience.
Additional for the Lottery Individuals with Disabilities Committee
• an understanding of mobility and communication difficulties facing disabled people,
• knowledge of the disability sector, and
• understanding the nature of acquiring a disability or congenital conditions.
Commitment
The Committee meets in February, April, June, August, October and December of each year.
Five of these meetings are online and the remainder are “face to face” meetings. Meetings
are held in Wellington.

Purpose
These two Committees share the same members and consider applications for:
• National Community - projects, activities, resources, or services that have a
community/social service focus, or projects that help improve the wellbeing of people
in the community, and
• Outdoor Safety - major outdoor safety groups, and other national and regional
groups, that have outdoor safety or water safety as their main purpose.
Skil s and experience
General
• first-hand experience in local community groups,
• management skil s, and
• extensive business knowledge.
Desirable
• grant distribution experience.

Oranga Marae Committee
On behalf of the Minister of Internal Affairs, the Department of Internal Af airs is seeking
candidates to fil the following roles on the National Community Commit ee and the Lottery
Outdoor Safety Commit ee:
• 2 Members
Purpose
Oranga Marae is a programme of support, advice, and investment for marae. This support
may include building projects and activities to restore cultural knowledge and funding for:
• marae development planning
• technical or feasibility study support (for capital works)
• cultural revitalisation activities; and
• capital works.
A key goal of the programme is to strengthen the ability of marae to pass on their ancestral
knowledge of whaikōrero, karanga and local mātauranga, tikanga and kawa.
Required skil s and experience
General

management skil s, and
•
extensive business knowledge.
Desirable
•
grant distribution experience.
Additional for Oranga Marae
• an understanding of how marae support cultural expression and identity for whānau,
hāpu and iwi
