Dear John
Thank you for your email of 12 August 2025 to my Office requesting, under the Of icial
Information Act 1982 (the Act), the following information:
I noted, you have recently call for nomination for the Appointments to the
External Reporting Board
https://gazette.govt.nz/notice/id/2025-go4373
May I ask how you called for public nomination and on what platform you have
call for public nominations e.g. govt.jobs website. A copy of your ad as well.
Also, how many applications you have received for each of the role from the
public and how many you have received from other nominating agencies such
as TPK or Ministry of women etc for your role. How many you have shortlisted
and how many you have interviewed. Also, can I request to view the
appointment letter if there is one sent to the previous appointee. I am happy for
you to remove all the personal information.
Appointments to the External Reporting Board were progressed through an expression
of interest process from within the membership of the Board. Public advertising for
nominations did not occur. I am therefore refusing your request for a copy of the
advertisement under section 18(e) of the Act, as the information requested does not
exist.
As the two new appointees were already members of the board and we did no public
advertising, we did not receive any nominations from the public or nomination
agencies, and we did not shortlist any candidates or carry out interviews.
Please find attached the appointment letter sent to the previous appointee. Please
note some information has been withheld under section 9(2)(a) of the Act, to protect
the privacy of natural persons.
I do not consider that the withholding of this information is outweighed by public
interest considerations in making the information available.
You have the right to seek an investigation and review by the Ombudsman of this
decision. Information about how to make a complaint is available at
www.ombudsman.parliament.nz or freephone 0800 802 602.
Yours sincerely,
Hon Scott Simpson
Minister of Commerce and Consumer Affairs
