Official Information Act (OIA) request: Power consumption by region
On 7 August 2025
, you requested, under the Official Information Act 1982 (the
Act), the following information:
•
“Please can you supply us with an average power consumption, annually, per
household in New Zealand, and break it down by region.
•
Can you also outline the cost per kWh by region”
Your request for this information is refused under section 18(d) of the Act on the
basis that the information requested is publicly available on the website of the
Electricity Authority.
Stats NZ used to publish
energy statistics, which provided information about the
energy used in New Zealand. While we used to publish these statistics, as at 5 June
20219, we no longer run the New Zealand energy use survey.
Although we no longer publish energy statistics, you may find the Electricity
Authority’s website useful. They provide information on power prices, broken down
by
region,
which
may
be
of
interest:
